The End Game

The gantry and support for the 996 radar, on top of the main mast.

A fairly complex structure needing care in construction. Materials in use here are brass wire and brass mesh. The rail stanchions are modified from 3 rail naval pattern to 2 rail for this particular application.

Here we see the structure completed and with several coats of black satin paint, ready for installation onto the main mast.

This picture shows the early development of the 996 radar assembly.

Constructed from wood, styrene and brass wire.

Here we see the final assembly of the 996.

The radar head, drive motor and gantry assembly installed on the top of the main mast.

This picture shows the beginning of the construction of the ESM gantries.

These are alll made from brass rod and soldered together.

One of the ESM gantries complete and ready for paint.

All five of the ESM gantries complete- painted and ready for installation onto the main mast.

ESM aerials and met equipment will be fitted at a later date.

Progressing on further with the main mast, the next picture shows the rear gantry, made up and fitted, complete with the rigging.

Final assemblies added to the main mast include the sensor package.

The main mast, complete and ready for fitting to the Citadel.

ESM aerials and the met instruments will be added at the end of the build. The author considers these to be too delicate to fit while work is still in progress on the rest of the hull.

As received, the 911 tracker requires a platform and rails to be fitted.

The picture shows a start being made on this job.

The 911 unit, complete, painted and dry fitted onto the roof of the Citadel module.

The two rail stnchions were again modified from the standard three rail items.

With the Citadel module almost complete, one of the last jobs was to make up the navigation light units.

Here we see the setup used for constructing these; an easy job, using the XY table on the drill stand.

This picture shows the completed Citadel module.

Still to be fitted at a later date are certain aerials and met instruments, which, due to their delicate nature, the author feels, are best to be left off at this point in time until the rest of the model is completed.
