Before we start

The Stand

On this job it was decided to make two stands, firstly a working stand which would also double for lake side use and a display stand for home and exhibition use.

The picture shows the working stand, simple in construction and protected with household gloss paint for use at the lakeside. The top edge is fitted with an adhesive foam strip used for sealing windows on caravans and boats the wood is 18mm block board.

The Kit

Before starting a project the author likes to collect as many of the items required to complete the job as possible; this saves time during the build and ensures parts are to hand when required. The picture shows the main items for this build including all the electronics and motors. It was decided at the outset to fit brushless motors with the appropriate controlers a bow thruster and an electronic mixer to aid manoeuvreing.

The author finds it useful to have a custom built board on which to display the full-size plans at all times, and to spend time studying the plans. Any difficult areas requiring further research are drawn from books, internet, visits to view the actual boat and taking advice from individuals with first hand knowledge.
